Multicultural Los Cabos – Wedding Hair and Makeup for African American Brides in Los Cabos
The appeal of any destination wedding is the destination itself. In the case of Los Cabos, that means year-round sunshine, gorgeous beaches, incredible food, pampering spas, exuberant nightlife…to name but a few of the attractions that have made cape cities Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo meccas for weddings and special events.
But although couples and their extended circle of family and friends are often willing, if not eager, to celebrate a momentous life experience for loved ones in a far-flung Mexican paradise, there are certain assurances that may be required before a destination wedding ultimately becomes a reality.
Often these assurances have to do with cultural norms and expectations. “Do you do ____ hair?” we are often asked, with the fill-in-the-blank selection toggling between various races or ethnicities.
The answer is always yes, by the way. The namesake owner of Suzanne Morel Face & Body Care grew up in a family of beauty salon owners, living at one time or another in three countries; an upbringing that taught her respect for different languages and cultures, and enabled her to become familiar with a wide variety of hair textures and skin care profiles. This learned experience was strengthened and reinforced when she founded her own cosmetics company, and has since been passed on as training to all the hair stylists and makeup artists at SMFBC.
We welcome everyone and we love working with all brides. But we also understand that a sort of “proof of experience” in the form of photos often helps to relieve any doubts as to our abilities, so over the course of 2020 we’ll be spotlighting some of our work for brides of diverse backgrounds, as well as providing a basic guideline for what to expect in regards hair and makeup prior to a destination wedding in Los Cabos.
This month’s blog is dedicated to bridal care for African American brides in Los Cabos.
What to Expect – Wedding Hair Styling for African American Brides in Los Cabos
Consultations and hair and makeup trials before the wedding are both useful, not only so you the bride can feel confident in your chosen look, but also feel confident in our ability to execute that look.
Of course, we can also offer advice on wedding hairdos if you’re undecided, extolling the relative merits of updos or down dos for Afro-textured hair (or variations thereof, many involving braids) based on your choice of wedding dress, the setting, and any number of other factors.
These details, combined with your own personality and preferences, may also suggest the use of hairstyle accents, whether its flowers, tiaras, hair clips, brooches or something similarly eye-catching.
Then, on the day of the wedding, we’ll dispatch our bilingual beauty team of hair and makeup artists to your resort or villa to get you–and as an option, your entire bridal party…and possibly even a flower girl or two–ready for the ceremony.
But the service doesn’t stop there. We remain available for any necessary touch ups (or brush ups, as the case may be) until you make your entrance at the reception.
What to Expect – Makeup Care for African American Brides in Los Cabos
Skin tone obviously matters when it comes to makeup for “African American brides”, which is why there have been cosmetic lines and makeup brands specifically created for women of color.
The same cosmetic concerns exist of course in México, where skin tones also vary significantly, but rarely towards the pale end of the spectrum. So there’s little need to worry, in other words, that your makeup artist will lack experience when it comes to applying makeup for darker complexions.
A more practical and important consideration for your destination wedding in Los Cabos is lighting, because the ability to anticipate the way your makeup will look under certain conditions is what ensures you will not only look beautiful, but photograph that way as well.
It’s a given for any wedding that photographers and videographers will be on hand to preserve the highlights of this special day for posterity. It’s not a given that just any makeup artist will be familiar with the local lighting conditions for Los Cabos, which is located below the Tropic of Cancer and has a very bright and intense natural light.
There is also the changeover–common to many destination weddings–when the setting shifts from an outdoor ceremony to an indoor reception. As a bride, you should want and expect makeup artists experienced with exactly this kind of transition, and who remain onsite long enough to effect it.
Yet another reason, by the way, to choose Suzanne Morel Face & Body Care, since this is one of our specialties.
African American Brides and Bridal Party Spa Ideas in Los Cabos
In addition to our hair and makeup expertise, SMFBC also operates the premier mobile spa service in Los Cabos, bringing pampering beauty and spa treatments to wherever you are, or where you’d like to be.
What does that mean in relation to a destination wedding? Spa parties for the bridal party, of course! Not only is it a fun way to relax before the big day, and a sure-fire way to ease any pre-wedding anxiety, spa parties are a great way to say thank you to some of your closest friends and family–your girls–for being there for you when it matters most.
There is also a practical side to a spa party, which is getting mani-pedis done before the wedding ceremony and reception, and preferably before the rehearsal dinner as well. Facials and massages will also help to ensure you’re exactly where you need to be, in both mind and body, headed into your wedding day.
All that’s left then is hair, makeup and happily ever after.
